The oldest saving bank in Austria, it was founded in 1819. In 1997, Die Erste osterreichisshe Spar-Casse Bank AG and GiroCredit merged into Erste Bank der oesterreichischen Sparkassen AG.In August 2008 the company's name was changed into  Erste Group Bank AG. It is the second largest banking group in the country and the leading bank of the Austrian savings banks group. The bank is focused on and serves more than 50% of Austrian small business. The group has subsidiaries in Eastern Europe.
