The Republic of Slovenia is the nation state in southern Central Europe. The area is 20.3 thousand square kilometers. It borders to Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. It has access to the Adriatic Sea.
On the North there are mountain ranges of the Eastern Alps - Pohorje, Karavanke Savinja Alps, the Julian Alps with Slovenia's highest point, Mount Triglav height of 2863 m. The South of the country is occupied by the Northern edge of Dinaric Alps. The lowlands are located in the West, near the Adriatic Sea coast, and in the East of the country.
The climate of Slovenia is temperate continental with clearly distinguished three climatic zones - the Middleeuropean zone in the Eastern part of the country with hot summers and cold winters, the Alpine zone in the Northwest of the country with cold winters and mild summers and the Mediterranean zone on the Adriatic coast.
The population is about 2 million people. The bulk of the population, about 90% are Slovenians. Others 10% are Italians, Hungarians, Serbs, Croats, Albanians, Macedonians, Bosnians and other representatives of the Balkan peoples, many of whom have recently come to Slovenia. The population of the counrty placed extremely irregularly. The highest population density is in Ljubljana, the capital of the country and in its suburbs. About 80% of population live in cities, villages in the country are underpopulated, as a rule, no more than 200-250 people per village.
Catholics make up 70.8% percent of believers (including 2% Uniates), Lutherans – 1%, Muslim – 1%.
