Germany is a democratic, social, consitutional state in Western Europe, with Denmark bordering to the north, Poland and the Czech Republic to the east, Austria and Switzerland to the south, France and Luxembourg to the southwest, and Belgium and the Netherlands to the northwest. The capital is Berlin.Germany is a member of NATO, the EU, and the G7.

Germany includes 16 constituent states. The Head of state is Federal President, who performs most representative functions and appoints the Federal Chancellor. The Federal Chancellor is the head of the German Government and manages the activities of the Federal Government, therefore, the form of government of Germany is often called chancellor democracy. Germany has a federal structure. It means that the political system of the state is divided into two levels: federal, which covers nation-wide solutions of international importance, and regional, which covers problems of federal lands.

Germany's leading economic sector is services. It also has a developed production of goods, machinery and various equipment that make up a significant portion of German exports. The main industries are mechanical engineering, electrical, chemical, automotive, shipbuilding, and coal.
