Latvia is a country in Northern Europe. The Capital is Riga. The state language is Latvian. A unitary state, parliamentary Republic. Latvia borders on Estonia in the North, Russia in the East, Belarus in the Southeast and Lithuania in the South.
Since May 2004 Latvia is a full member of the European Union, and since March 30, 2008 it fully applies the rules of the Schengen zone. Since 1 January 2014 Latvia has become the 18th country that joined the Euro single currency – the Euro zone.
The EU membership has allowed Latvia to increase trade ties with the European States, particularly Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Russia remains a traditional trade partner of Latvia. The economy is focused on logistics, banking, tourism, food industry.
